The Assistant Director of education assists the Director of Education in the development, planning, coordination, and directing of the curricula, instructional programs, and activities of Gwaltney School.
The Assistant Director of Education interprets and implements the Virginia Department of Education approved curriculum program relative to the needs of the students of Gwaltney School.
This position provides leadership to an assists the professional staff in determining Gwaltney School objectives and identifying the needs of Gwaltney School and its' students as the foundation for developing long and short range plans for Gwaltney School.
In the absence of the Director of Education, this position assumes the leadership of Gwaltney School.
This position assists in providing oversight and supervision of student enrollment, records, attendance, and compliance with health requirements.
The Assistant Director of Education develops plans for emergency situations in cooperation with staff and public safety agencies.
A Master's Degree in Special Education, Guidance or Educational Leadership required.
Other education specializations will be considered.
Qualified applicants must be licensed or licensed eligible and possess the ability to obtain an Administration Supervision Endorsement and Special Education Endorsement.
Three years' Special Education Administration experience preferred.
Previous experience writing IEP's required.
Excellent interpersonal relationship and consensus building skills required.
Excellent organizational skills required to manage, delegate, and complete tasks.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
Qualified candidates must possess the ability to interpret and apply complex policies and procedures with the ability to clearly explain these to persons without prior experience with them.
Qualified candidates must possess the analytical and observational skills to make decisions which safeguard the health, safety, and educational plans of students in care.
Qualified candidates must possess a working knowledge of VDOE, VDSS, and VDBHDS regulations.
Working knowledge of COA and VAISEF standards required.
Knowledge of best practices related to educational testing, IEP development, the evaluation of educational testing results, instructional techniques and best practice special education approaches including curricula development and assessment.
